RAMADAN

Guidance for Ramadan. Evening of Friday 28th February - Sunday 30th March

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar and is considered to be the holiest month for Muslims, where they observe a strict fast, abstaining from food and drink from pre-dawn to sunset, a fast of between 11-16 hours, depending on the time of year, for a period of 29-30 days. In 2025, Ramadan is anticipated to commence on the evening on Friday 28th February, and conclude on Sunday 30th March, depending upon the sighting of the moon. All Muslims who have reached puberty are obligated to fast during daylight hours.

When observing Ramadan, football players may need to adjust their training schedules and rest more to accommodate their fasting. Leagues and clubs can support Muslin players by recognising, consulting and where appropriate changing plans.

Players and those involved in the game need to be conscious of the impact of Ramadan in relation to the three core aspects – nutrition, hydration and sleep – coaches also need to be informed and aware about how they can assist those players observing Ramadan.

By having an understanding of and addressing the implications of Ramadan within the football community, we reaffirm our commitment to diversity, inclusion, and respect for all faiths.
